Install packages

Install the CLI, SDK, build adapter and provider package before setup.

Use compatible packages

These pages target the latest stable release. Install the CLI, SDK and required plugins using the commands below. Commit the resulting lockfile to reproduce the installed versions.

For an existing v0 installation, start with Move from v0 to v1 before installing or changing infrastructure.

Prerequisites

  • An existing React Native app using the React Native CLI, Rock or Expo.
  • Run package commands in the app's workspace directory, using its package manager and lockfile.
  • The CLI requires Node.js 20.19+. For generated infrastructure/client-key helpers, use Node.js 22.18+ or Node.js 24+; a separate helper runtime can coexist with your app toolchain.
  • To complete a device test, have the iOS or Android native toolchain installed. OTA testing needs a native Release build with Hot Updater's native module.

An agent should inspect the app, installed packages and existing provider first, then perform the installation below with the project's package manager.

Install the CLI and SDK

Install the runtime SDK as an app dependency:

npm install @hot-updater/react-native

Install the deployment CLI as a development dependency:

npm install hot-updater --save-dev

Install your build adapter

Choose the app's build system:

npm install @hot-updater/bare --save-dev

Install your provider package

For a managed provider, install the package for your selected infrastructure:

npm install @hot-updater/cloudflare --save-dev

For a custom server, follow its database/storage package choices and install the required @hot-updater/* packages. Server dependencies belong in the server workspace when it is separate. The app's hot-updater.config.ts lists the server's plugins and imports the official apiKeys, insights, and remoteConfig factories from hot-updater/plugins, included with the CLI installed above. A custom server imports those factories from @hot-updater/server/plugins in its own workspace.

Complete the SDK, CLI, build and provider installations before running init or generating infrastructure so setup uses the packages selected for your app and provider.

Check the installed CLI

Use the local CLI from the app directory:

npx --no-install hot-updater --version
npx --no-install hot-updater init --help
npx --no-install hot-updater agent infra setup --help

The help must expose the commands used by your chosen workflow. Installing the agent skill does not add commands to an older CLI.

Continue with agent setup or manual setup.
